ITHACA, N.Y. - Senior quarterback Ryan Van De Giesen (Bridgton Academy/North Attleboro, Mass.) threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game – a 12-yard completion to freshman wide receiver Norman Landry (Bellingham/Blackstone, Mass.) – with 32 seconds left to lead the seventh-seeded Curry Colonels (10-1) to a 26-21 win over the second-seeded Ithaca Bombers (9-2) Saturday in the first round of the NCAA playoffs. The Colonels advance to play at third-seeded Cortland in the regional semifinals Saturday at noon.

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Visiting Curry scored four touchdowns in a 10-minute span just before and after halftime and went on to defeat UMass Dartmouth, 40-20, in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) Boyd Division game at Cressy Field. The Corsairs were leading 10-7 when Colonels’ senior quarterback Ryan Van De Giesen connected with rookie wide receiver Norman Landry on a 30-yard touchdown pass with 10 seconds left in the first half. Curry junior linebacker Scott Driscoll picked off a pass by UMass Dartmouth senior quarterback Alex Garro to make it 20-10 early in the third quarter. Junior running back James Moore scored from 41 yards out to cut the Colonels’ lead to 20-17 with 10:51 left in the third quarter. But junior running back Jamaal Woods capped a 55-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run with 8:11 left in the third quarter, then scored on a 34-yard run three minutes later, allowing the Colonels to expand their lead to 33-17.

MILTON, Mass. – Senior quarterback Ryan Van De Giesen (North Attleboro, MA) threw four touchdown passes as Curry knocked off visiting Nichols College, 45-20 in New England Football Conference (NEFC) Boyd Division action. The Colonels extended their home winning streak to 34. Curry (8-1, 5-1 NEFC Boyd) raced out to a 24-0 halftime lead by virtue of three Van De Giesen touchdown passes to three different receivers, and a 32-yard field goal by sophomore Matt Alksninis (Mansfield, MA). Van De Giesen hooked up with senior running back Steve DiFabio (Salem, NH) from 44 yards out, sophomore wide receiver Jon Chattman (Woonsocket, RI) from 18 yards out, and senior wide receiver Brian Taylor from six yards out to give Curry all the points it would need on the day. Alksninis added three more points as time expired in the second quarter. After the break, the teams combined for six touchdowns and 41 points in a third-quarter offensive explosion. The Colonels extended their lead to 31-0 with their only rushing touchdown of the contest, a 27-yard scamper by junior fullback John Sughrue (Fremont, NH). The Bison (2-7, 0-6 NEFC Boyd) got on the board courtesy of a 69-yard scoring romp by freshman running back Frank Brown (Dorchester, MA). Curry responded with a 27-yard scoring pass from senior quarterback Patrick Maloney (Worcester, MA) to Chattman. Nichols replied with a 90-yard kickoff return from junior Lawrence Scott (Oxford, MA). The Colonels last points resulted from the second Van De Giesen-to-Taylor connection of the afternoon, this one from 15 yards away. The Bison dented the scoreboard for a final time at 4:36 of the third frame when Brown found pay dirt from one yard out.

The Colonels remain unbeaten, improving their record to 7-0 (4-0 NEFC Boyd) while Endicott falls to 2-5 (1-3 NEFC Boyd). The Colonels also captured their 37th-consecutive victory against NEFC rivals. Curry senior quarterback Ryan Van De Giesen (N. Attleboro, Mass.) was 14-of-26 for 324 yards and two touchdowns in the win. The Colonels also had four separate running backs break the goal line, as the visitors ran the ball 58 times for 229 yards.

CURRY ROLLS PAST M.I.T. 59-27 TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED Seven Different Colonels Find the End Zone During 32-Point Rout MILTON, Mass. – Curry College got eight touchdowns from seven different players and rolled past visiting M.I.T., 59-27, in New England Football Conference (NEFC) Boyd Division action. The Colonels captured their 36th-consecutive victory against NEFC rivals, and their 33rd-consecutive victory at home. The Engineers (3-3, 1-2 NEFC Boyd) took an early 7-0 lead when senior running back Robert Utz (Cockeysville, MD) cashed in from a yard out at 13:25 of the opening frame. Five minutes later, Curry (6-0, 3-0 NEFC Boyd) got a 26-yard field goal from sophomore Matt Alksninis (Mansfield, MA) to trim the deficit to 7-3.

NEWPORT, R.I. – Curry College scored 21 unanswered second-half points en route to a 21-7 win over Salve Regina University in New England Football Conference (NEFC) Boyd Division action at Toppa Field. The Colonels captured their 35th-straight win against NEFC opponents. With the game tied at seven midway through the fourth quarter, Curry junior linebacker Scott Driscoll (North Andover, Mass.) stepped in front of a pass and returned the interception 25 yards for a touchdown to give the Colonels (5-0, 2-0 NEFC Boyd) a 14-7 lead. After the Curry defense pressured Salve Regina (2-2, 1-1 NEFC Boyd) junior QB Jeff St. Onge (Kingston, N.H.) into his second interception of the afternoon, senior QB Ryan Van De Giesen (North Attleboro, Mass.) broke off a 13-yard touchdown run to make it 21-7 in favor of Curry.

That was followed in quick succession by a 9-yard Van De Giesen pass to sophomore wide receiver Jon Chattman (Woonsocket, RI) that extended the Curry lead to 35-16 after three frames. The senior signal-caller capped off the day’s scoring midway through the fourth quarter on a 38-yard pass to junior tight end Jeff Hibbard (Dedham, MA).

WORCESTER, Mass. - Curry senior running back Joseph Freeman (Lowell, MA) scored the go-ahead touchdown on a pass from Senior QB, Ryan Van De Geisen, in overtime to help lead the Colonels past Worcester State, 28-21, in the season opener for both teams. Curry extended its winning streak to 31 games against NEFC opponents.
