Help: Film Processing

Processing film at the Gallery

The Kodak Gallery makes it easy for film users to enjoy all the benefits of digital photography. We put your film online for just $7.99 per roll and return your negatives free of charge. A credit card is required to pay for film processing.

Here's how it works:

  1. If this is your first roll, you'll need to request free film mailers. We'll send you three postage-paid mailers for your film.
  2. Put up to five rolls of exposed 35mm color print film (types of film accepted) in a mailer, seal it, and drop it in the mail. We will process your film, put your photos online and mail your negatives back to you at no charge.
  3. When the film processing is complete, we will notify you with an email message that includes a link to your photos and the payment page.
  4. Once you've paid the $7.99 processing fee, your photos will be stored in an online album within your account. You have 60 days after notification to pay for the processing. All major credit cards are accepted.

Film types accepted by the Gallery

The Gallery processes a wide variety of C-41-compliant film: color 35 mm, color Advantix (APS), single-use cameras, and black-and-white film labeled "process C-41."

C-41 is the most common reference for Kodak's developing process for color negative film.(It is synonymous with CN-16 (Fuji) and AP70 (Agfa).) Each canister of C-41 compatible film indicates "process C-41".

Look for the "C-41" label to ensure compatibility.

How to tell if APS film is ready for processing

Many people send APS film to the Gallery that is not exposed at all or that has already been developed. To check if your roll has been exposed or processed, look at one end of each APS cassette; there are four holes and a tab. There is also a white indicator that aligns under one of the holes to indicate the status of the roll as follows:

  1. First Position : A circular hole, with the number "1" next to it - this roll is unexposed.
  2. Second Position: A semi-circular hole, with the number "2" next to it - this roll is partially-exposed.
  3. Third Position: An X-shaped hole with the number "3" next to it - this roll is fully-exposed.
  4. Fourth Position: A square-shaped hole with the number "4" next to it - this roll has been processed.

Note: If the film roll tab is pushed in, the roll has been processed.

Seattle FilmWorks film

Most film made by Seattle FilmWorks (SFW) is C-41-compatible. However, some SFW film is made from movie stock.

To determine if your SFW film is C-41 compatible:

  • Look at the roll and examine the leader strip.
  • C-41 film is brownish and the sprocket holes are rectangular.
  • Motion picture film is black and the sprocket holes are a rounded oval shape.

Note: If your film is C-41 compatible, the Gallery can process your photos.
